Thoughts of “the Great Gatsby”

"The Great Gatsby" was written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, who was born in Sao Paulo, Minnesota in America.

Published in nineteen twenty-five, "The Great Gatsby" was set in the nineteen twenties in New York City and on Long Island. It was regarded as the symbol of "Jazz Age" of American literature and it is now considered as one of the greatest modern American novels.

The novel is started by Nick’s statement. Nick, who was regarded as Gatsby’s only confidant and was the witness to the glitz that ultimately reflects emptiness and selfishness in the American society, but not success .

According to Nick, we can gradually know the venation of the story between Gatsby and Daisy. Gatsby was born in penury, however, he was ambitious and later became rich because of bootlegging. Virtually, the reason why Gatsby had been dying for fortune and power was Daisy’s betrayal. And Daisy, who was Gatsby’s lover when Gatsby served with the colours. Obviously, Daisy impressed herself into Gatsby’s heart during that time. But then Daisy put away Gatsby heartless and married Tom, who was a fairly rich man at that time.

The Reading Response

In Eng-3U, I'm glad that I have read two good books, which are <<The Great Gatsby >> and <<Macbeth>>. I have learned some principles from both two books. These two books have many similarities more than the differences betwween them. So i prefer to talk about my views about the similarities in the two books.

Ambitions, Gatsby had made a plan for his daily life when he was very young, from this plan we can see Gasby is an ambitious boy at the time. Gatsby made a great successful in the war, he became a rich man, now his ambition is to repeat the past, he wants to find back his first love and only lover---Daisy. But Daisy thought that "Rich girl does not marry with poor boy", so Daisy changed, she wants own rich Gatsby and rich Tom at the same time. What a ridiculous women, what a corruption society. Macbeth is a brave hero, the three witches' prenotions make Macbeth awares his

篇六 :《伟大的盖茨比》、《The Great Gastby》

Every American has a dream in their deep heart, it is American Dream. It’s a dream that they believe they will be able to achieve the ideal of a better life if they work through their own hard work, courage, creativity and determination during a hard struggle, rather than rely on specific social classes and other assistance.

Some brilliant people who saw the reality much more clearly had pointed out that the American Dream may not always be simple and it may always remain tantalizingly out of reach for some Americans, make it more like a cruel joke than a genuine dream. Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald is one of those brilliant people, he wrote The Great Gatsby to describe the cruel reality of the 20th century.

The key character, Gatsby, had fallen in love with Daisy in 1917 as an Army Lieutenant stationed near Daisy’s hometown, Louisville. At that time, he was very poor , he came back after the war and made a lot of money from illegal activities. Gatsby bought his mansion near Daisy and Tom, where he hosted parties everyday hoping she would visit. During the parties, the crows hardly knew their host, even many came and went
