My View Point on Shawshank Redemption

Abstract: This film Shawshank Redemption describes a man called Andy Dufresne was sent to the prison for he murdered his wife but in fact he was innocent. Then he started fighting against with the wicked prison life. Though he suffered many unfair treatments and ordeals, he never gives up himself. Due to his intelligence and perseverance, he spend 20 years successfully escape from the prison as a redemption. He teaches me that never lose hope.

The story took place in 1940. A man who is a banker called Andy Dufresne, was sent into the Shawshank prison, for he murderer his wife and her lover in bed. However, he was innocent as he said. The new days in the prison were hard to live. It’s violent, heartless and cruel. Nevertheless, A month later, Andy began to make friends with other prisoners. And one of them called Red, who could get anything what he wanted. Andy bought a mallet from him and started his plan to escape. During this time, he did many things: expanding the library, caving stones, helping the corrupt warden to get money or bribe, etc. Then a young prisoner’s coming break his quiet life in jail. But the warden killed the young prisoner the only man that knew Andy was innocent. Then he knew the prison he could not stay any more. It took him 20 years to tunnel secretly and he successfully escaped from the prison. When he got free, Andy sent the evident which could prove the warden corruption, briber and murdering to the policy agency. Before that, Andy had told his best friend Red that his dream---Zihuatanejo, a warm place without memory. After escaping, Andy lived a free life in another identity and made the prison governor arrested. Several years later, Red was approved to leave. for the promise to Andy. Finally, in Zihuyatanejo, they met.

The Scarlet Letter

《The Scarlet Letter》written by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a novel concerns souls.Everyone has his own soul.Someone defends his soul,someone does damage to it,even there are people who lose their own souls.In consequence,this world is filled with human stories in thousands of postures.

“A” is the first letter of the alphabetic which means the beginning of one thing.However,inn Christians’ tradition, the beginning indicates deprivation and original sin that no one can get rid of.According to the Bible,we are all the seed of Adam.Nevertheless,Adam and Eve were punished by Jehovah for their stealing to eat love forbidden fruit.Owing to this,we,who are the descendants of Adam and Eve,are born guilty.In Puritans’ eyes,Hester Prynne is a dissolute and immoral woman.They take Hester into custody just to show the dignity of God. So foolish people they are!An ugly woman cries:“This woman has brought shame upon us all,and ought to die.Is there not law for it? Truly there is,both in the Scripture and the statute book.”(2009:56)From this description,we can easily find that people there are so indifferent that they seem to be captivate by the church. We see,Hester is so common a woman who is dying for love and does not want to be forced to compromise to reality.“She had dark and abundant hair,so glossy that it threw off the sunshine with a gleam,and a face which,besides being beautiful from regularity of feature and richness of complexion,had the impressiveness belonging to a marked brow and deep black eyes”.(57)Hester is such a good woman that she shows great love to her beloved--Mr Dimmesdale.This religious entanglement of emotions is difficult for people who have no religion belief to understand.I am such a person who can not understand.Religion has been part of the Westerners’s life and it must be very painful to leave the religious life.But I do not have a religious experience, so it is hard for me to understand the hero's psychology. These are the obstacles for me to understand the novel and I find it hard to overcome it.

Feeing after watching Front of the class

I cried twice when I watched this movie. That scene that all the students applaud for Brad to show their understanding is still clear in my mind. At that moment,my eyes are full of tears. Also, there are many scene that moved me. Now,I want to share two aspect about this movie to you.

The first thing that I want to talk about is the education.I remember a principal i this movie had ever asked a question to Brad: “what is education?”when all of the teacher in his school show their unfriendly and blame to Brad, it is this principal that give him courage and help him to open a new world. It is he that make Brad be understood and treated equal by other students. Besides, it is he that make Brad determined to become a teacher. This is a pawer of education and real education. Education is not like the way that those teacher used to treat Brad and the attitude that take different from different students. On the contrary, Brad do what a real teacher do. He contribute all his life to the teaching the moment when he determined to be a teacher. He take every lesson with high passion and all his enthusiasm. His principle of teaching is not giving up every student. He also make students can’t wait to take his class due to his creative teaching method so that they can easily understand the content of the book. That’s really a admirable teacher. He regard teaching as an important part in his life. This spirit that Brad showed is what every teacher should learn.

——Suet ball I’m reading a book named Suet ball, which was written by Maupassant, one of the greatest critical realist writers in the world. He created hundreds of short stories and six novels during his short lifetime. As we all know, he is famous for his short stories, especially the story Suet ball which won him great reputation around the world.

Suet ball was based on a true story happened at the war between French and Prussia. This novel tells the sad story of a harlot called suet ball. With several noble French on the carriage, she was on the way leaving her city for her at the point of killing a Prussia soldier. Though she was looked down by these people, she was selfless to share her food with them. Unfortunately, they were detained by a Prussia officer. The officer didn’t let them go unless suet ball agree to sleep with him for one night. At first, she was determined to refuse his unreasonable request. However, these noble people were so selfish that they instigated her to say yes to him, thoroughly giving up their patriotism. So this kind-hearted girl took their advice, selling her body to get in their freedom in return. My Comments on ”Youth”

In Japan there is such a sentence:Anyone worthy of respect in Japanese business knows and uses this essay--Youth. This article,less than 500 words, written by Samuel Ullman ,”Youth” has been the dumping of the world, and even after so many years its charm is still.

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind.. After reading it, I was

deeply infected with the passion of author towards life and the way he treat people. On the other hand, I seem to see him sinking forever young at heart, still beckoning us go forward with the times.

Youth is the most gorgeous station, the most marvelous station, the most brightest year station in the whole life. Youth breeds endless energy to mine, to dig and to transmit. Every life is beautiful, and the smallest flower can not refuse to open.

Cold mountain

Cold Mountain is written by Charles Frazier, an award-winning American novelist. The novel is set during the outbreak of the Civil War, an era of discord between North and South. It is a thrilling story which centers on how a Confederate soldier Inman makes his way back to his hometown, Cold Mountain, to find his true love. On the journey, Inman confronts danger as the home Guard is killing soldiers who escape from the war. And he goes through a great many hardships and difficulties. In the meantime, Ada faces lots of troubles after her father died. She has no idea how to earn a living. Fortunately, Ruby shows up and helps Ada on the farm. Ada learns how to be independent and becomes more and more indomitable. Finally, Inman successfully comes back to Cold Mountain and proves his commitment to love. However, he is shot by the Home Guard and dies in the arm of Ada.

——Pride and Prejudice

I’ve read a book called Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen. Unfortunately, her first love ended up with a sad ending for some reason. But precisely because that, she devoted herself to literature during her remaining life. By the way, she remained unmarried all her life. And she has a high reputation all over the world.

The female leading role is Elizabeth, who is one of the daughters that Mr. Bennet has. Mrs. Bennet was dying to become rich and find a good man for her five daughters. To seize the chance, they went to the ball held by Bingley, their wealthy bachelor neighbor. And Bingley fell in love with Jane, the oldest daughter, at the first sight. However, his friend Darcy, the male leading role,thought nobody could capture him, including Elizabeth. So at first, she regarded him as supercilious and self-conceited. Then, because of Mr. Wickham’s lies, she hated him. She didn’t realize his virtue until he pull through her family the dark moments. Finally, they cleared all the misunderstandings and lived a happy life.
