This year winter vacation, I read the american well-known writerHemingway's novel”Old man and the sea”

It seems to be that Santiago is a poor old man. Hemingway refining the language of their own to shape the image, it can be said that Hemingway didn’t let the elderly achieved success,however has been given under the pressure of the elderly in the image of elegance and fortitude.

Hemingway's novel won the Nobel Prize for Literature and the Pulitzer Prize. The tough guy writer, the proper strength to write his life, tell us how to deal with birth, old age, sickness and death, tells us how wide the heart, such as the sea in general. The elderly are lonely, he was approached in an ideal road trip travelers, but he is not lonely, because his will is so strong.

This semester, we saw the movie —《The old man and the sea》. The movie which was adapted from the novel written by Hemingway tells us a story about an old man fight against the nature.

The novel narrates an old fisherman named Santiago didn’t catch a fish after 84 days on the sea. Finally, he made a decision that going fishing to the unfamiliar sea area. Luckily, he discovered a huge marlin. After fierce fighting, he conquered the marlin despite he was exhausted. Drawn the short straw, the smell of marlin’s blood attracted the sharks. Sharks raided the old man and bit the meat of marlin. The old man resisted the attack from the sharks desperately. However, when he went back the harbor, there was only the marlin’s skeleton left. And there were many discussions about the skeleton among people in harbor.

我读了美国著名作家海明威的小说《老人与海》，十分佩服小说中老渔夫的意志，他让我懂得了一个人一定要有坚持不懈的精神，才能获得成功。 小说描写的是一个年近六旬的老渔夫，在一次单身出海打鱼时，钓到了一条大鱼，却拉不上来老渔夫同鱼周旋了几天后，才发现这是一条超过自己渔船数倍的大马林鱼，虽然明知很难取胜，但仍不放弃。后来又因大马林鱼伤口上的鱼腥味引来了几群鲨鱼抢食，但老人仍不愿就这样放弃，最终突出重围，将大鱼带回了渔港，让其他渔夫佩服不已。

I read a novel named “the old man and the sea” written by a famous writer Ernest Hemingway. After reading it, I very admire the will of the protagonist of the novel an old fisherman, he let me know that the key to a person’ success is persistence. The novel described an old fisherman who was nearly sixty years old, he caught a big fish in a time when he went fishing in the sea by himself, but he couldn’t pull the big fish up. After he worked with the fish for a few days, he found that the fish was several times bigger than his fishing boat. Although knowing is hard to win the big fish, he didn’t give up. Then a few groups of sharks attracted by the smell of the big fish’s wound, but the old fisherman still didn’t want to give up. Finally he succeeded and took big fish back to the fishing port. After seeing this, the other fishermen all admired the old fisherman.

Reading Report of The Old Man and the Sea

The Old Man and the Sea was written by an American writer named Ernest Hemingway. It has been translated into tens of languages, and the writer was so proud of his work.

Santiago, the hero of the story, had gone eighty-four days without taking a fish back. At first, a boy named Manolion had been with him, but Santiago couldn’t catch even one fish. The boy had gone at his parents’ orders in a lucky boat which caught three good fish the first week, and the couple thought that it was definitely and finally bad to let their boy stay with the old fisherman. On Santiago’s eighty-fifth day of fishing, he went out alone, leaving the smell of the land behind and rowing out into the clean early morning smell of ocean. To his surprise, he caught a tuna which he had never seen before and it was hard to believe that the tuna was bigger than his boat. Later, the blood from the tuna left a trail for all sharks as wide as a highway, so fighting against sharks was unavoidable. The result was that sharks ate up all the meat of the tuna and Santiago only brought the tuna skeleton back. He was so tired that he slept deeply as soon as he got home, dreaming of lions.

《老人与海》读后感

A man is not made for defeat, a man can be destroyed but not defeated.读完之后这句话深深的烙在了我的脑海中，面对这条硕大的马林鱼，老人三天三夜都没松开手中的鱼线，面对成群的鲨鱼蜂拥而来，老人毫不畏缩，毅然拿起手中的木棍捍卫自己的收获，这样一个硬汉的形象顿时彰显在了我眼前，让我为之震撼为之钦佩。现在的生活中的挑战当然无处不在，我们需要像老人学习，拥有一颗勇敢的心，面对挑战时要勇敢攥紧自己的拳头，不屈服，不气馁，而不能去选择逃避，不敢面对。

在茫茫的大海中，老人独自一人坐在小帆船中，与远处的夕阳相映照显得格外渺茫，喳喳的海鸟轻松的捕捉着自己的食物，而老人却84天没有捕到过鱼了，面对这样的处境老人依然坚强，看日升日落、观月隐月现，与鱼鸟作伴，和风水对话，他也变成了大海的一部分。 “海洋是仁慈的，十分美丽的，”最终给予了老人一条“比小船还长两英尺”的大马林鱼。可是海洋又是残忍的——那些成群结队而来鲨鱼夺走了他辛苦追捕到的大鱼，粉碎了他的“光荣”。老人的孤独与快乐、斗争与失败都和大海相联系。通过桑地亚哥的形象，作者热情地赞颂了人类面对艰难困苦时所显示的坚不可摧的精神力量，所以无论怎样我们都不能自我放弃。

My thoughts on the old man and the sea

A man is not made for defeat, a man can be destroyed but not defeated. This sentence has lingered in my mind since I finished the book” The Old Man and the Sea”

In the face of fighting with this huge marlin, the old man did not release the fishing line in his hands for three days and nights, and the old man did not flinch when confronted with attack of sharks, but decided to pick up the wooden stick in the hands to defend their own harvest.

In the past a few days, we learned something about a novel called the old man and the sea, after learning it, I have some thoughts about it.

The story introduced an old experienced fisherman to us. His name is Santiago. He has not caught any fish for 84 days, so the 85th day, he went to the deep sea, trying to get some fish. It was a hard time when Santiago floated on the sea for almost 3 days in order to catch a big fish called marlin. Finally, he made it. But unfortunately, the smell of blood attracted a lot of sharks. At last, all his effort to drive away the sharks was in vain. His marlin was eaten up, and he still got nothing.

老人与海英文读后感

The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring wors and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation. It played an impotrant part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me. The novel describes a story about a sixty years old senior fisherman, who alone goes to sea in one fishing, fished one big fish which actually his boat cannot pull. The senior fisherman waitted several days after the fish, only then discovered this was the big marlin which one surpassed the oneself fishing boat several fold, although knew perfectly well very difficult to win, but still did not give up. Afterwards and further because the big marlin`s blood wound brought in several crowds of shark snatches the food, but the old person still did not give up. Finally he returned to the harbor with the big fish, which surprised other fishermen.
