Ni hao. It is truly a pleasure to be here at the Number Seven School. Thank you so much for your warm welcome.

Now, before I get started, on behalf of myself and my husband, I want to say that our hearts go out to all those with loved ones on Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. As I said this past weekend when I spoke at Peking University, we are very much keeping all of them in our thoughts and our prayers at this tremendously difficult time.

So now, let me start by thanking your Principal, Principal Liu, and your classmate, Ju Chao, for that wonderful introduction. Your English, Ju Chao, is excellent, and you should be very proud. Thank you so much. (Applause.) And I want to thank all of the students here today, both those of you here in person and those of you joining remotely from across the region. I’m thrilled to be visiting your wonderful school.

Mr. Speaker, Mr. Vice President, Members of Congress, my fellow Americans:

We are 15 years into this new century. Fifteen years that dawned with terror touching our shores; that unfolded with a new generation fighting two long and costly wars; that saw a vicious recession spread across our nation and the world. It has been, and still is, a hard time for many.

我们跨入新世纪已经15年了。新世纪一开始，我们就遭受了恐怖袭击，新一代人就投入了两场旷日持久而又代价昂贵的战争，后来又发生了席卷全国乃至全球的恶性衰退。对很多人来说，那时候是，现在也仍然是一段艰难的时期。

economy is growing and creating jobs at the fastest pace since 1999. Our unemployment rate is now lower than it was before the financial crisis. More of our kids are graduating than ever before. More of our people are insured than ever before. And we are as free from the grip of foreign oil as we've been in almost 30 years.

正确的选择

“对于三十岁以后的人来说，十年八年不过是指缝间的事。 而对于年轻人而言，三年五年就可以是一生一世??” 这句话出自张爱玲的经典小说《半生缘》，书里开头是沈世均的内心独白“他和曼桢认识，已经是多年前的事了。算起来倒已经有十四年了——真吓人一跳！马上使他连带地觉得自己老了许多。日子过得真快，尤其对于中年以后的人，十年八年都好像是指顾间的事。可是对于年轻人，三年五载就可以是一生一世。他和曼桢从认识到分手，不过几年的工夫，这几年里面却经过这么许多事情，仿佛把生老病死一切的哀乐都经历到了。”今天在这里援引这句话却不是想探讨关于爱情的话题，而是想说说关于年轻时的选择。

选择是人一生永恒的课题，我们无时无刻不在经历着各种的选择，小到衣食住行鸡毛蒜皮，大至事业婚姻未来规划，尤其是对于二三十岁的年轻人来说，每一个大的选择都是对于后半生的奠基，甚至某种程度上来说，是一场以未来做注的一场赌局，想来不啻于世间第一的豪赌了。一旦做下了选择，便如美国诗人罗伯特·弗罗斯特(ROBERT FROST)在他的诗《未选择的路》（The Road Not Taken）中写到的：

啊，留下一条路等改日再见！

.但我知道路径延绵无尽头，

恐怕我难以再回返。

也许多少年后在某个地方，

我将轻声叹息将往事回顾：

一片树林里分出两条路-

而我选择了人迹更少的一条，

从此决定了我一生的道路。

我想，何为做出正确的选择，便是20岁跟对人，30岁做对事

当我们20岁，我们刚进入社会，犹如一张白纸，想要画出漂亮的图案，奈何空有一番热情却不知道如何下手。这个时候，我们寻寻觅觅，希望能抓住一根稻草，沿着这根草我们能够认准人生的方向，可以看到未来的辉煌。于是，跟对人，成为这个年龄所做的必修课。 社会确实有点复杂，年轻单纯的我们往往被舆情热浪掀起，找不到方向。似乎经济社会的人都成了经济人，他们用自己闯荡了多年的社会阅历，练就了一身武大郎似的画饼的能力。可是，很多人却没有学到武大郎的忠厚老实，结果年轻人跟着他充满希望大踏步前进，结果武大郎的饼子越摊越大，终究还是一张梦中的饼。等年轻人幡然醒悟时，武大郎却挑着货担走远了。

Good afternoon. It is a great honor for me to be here in Shanghai, and to have this opportunity to speak with all of you. I'd like to thank Fudan University's President Yang for his hospitality and his gracious welcome. I'd also like to thank our outstanding Ambassador, Jon Huntsman, who exemplifies the deep ties and respect between our nations. I don't know what he said, but I hope it was good.
