The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a classical novel in American literature in the 19th century. Since the first Chinese translation of The Scarlet Letter appeared in the 1950's scholars and readers in this country have shown an ever-increasing interest in his works. Its immortal enchantment lies in not only its condemnation of the negative impact of Puritan society on people's spirit, but also its affirmation of goodness. Summary: Janet & Geoff Benge wrote a book Benjamin Franklin to tell us a story about his life and his contribution to science, politics and public utilities, it also told us his methods dealing with other people and the attitude towards life.

Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston and his father was originally a British fabric dyer and took soap and candle making as his main business at that time. Ben was fourteenth of seventeen children born in his family and he was the tenth of the ten sons, so he can attend the Boston Grammar School while the other children did not have that opportunity. He had stayed in school for almost 2 years, but because of subsistence needs he had to be the apprentice at his brother James’ printer. While working there developed his strong interest in writing and he has been a printer for nearly 10 years. In his spare time he used the money saved from meals to buy books to learn. Meanwhile his talent was quickly recognized by others and got acquainted with the apprentice of several bookstores. Each time he borrowed 2 books and sat up through the night reading and exchanged new books on Sunday afternoon. He read a wide range, from popular literature to natural science and famous author’s paper.

I read the novel---The Hunger Games, because I with my good friend during the Spring Festival had no intention to see The Hunger Games 3 .Then I stayed up late to watch the first two films and I “fell in love with” it.A series of this film is the most special subject I had ever seen by far. After reading the novel, you will marvel at the author's ideas.In my heart, its status only Harry Potter and The Matrix can be comparable to,so as the original novel, I think it's more attractive.

I think the novel’s most attractive part is the set to The Hunger Games .Design of these levels of the game designer can make you feel very exquisite beyond compare, but the premise is that these levels are used to kill the ”tributes “in The Hunger Games.This contradiction will make you feel nervous at the destiny of tributes , also hope to see then what are the organs during reading the novel.In this process, your mood will be shocked with the tribute’s death , and marveled at this ”ruthless art” of the designer.It also reflects the people's dark side,as the residents of congressional district in the novel take The Hunger Games as a reality show.People will generally ignore the person’ life who has nothing to do with their own ,what's more, will have the mood to appreciate other people's death.

Review of ‘Oliver Twist’

As you have read ‘Oliver Twist’, a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century which has became one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens, you can really understand the worlds‘regain the nature of goodness’.

Charles Dickens was born in a poor family ,having a poor background ,he wrote this novel in his twenties ,who was just with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals,as well as to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.

The hero of ‘Oliver Twist’ was an orphan named Oliver Twist, when he was born ,he was thrown into a world which is full of poverty and crime. He has suffered enormous pains, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty. How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed thatgoodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded. For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.
